Liberal Democrats successfully call for action on Pavement Parking

by admin on 25 June, 2012

Cllr Brendan Glynane has today welcomed the vote in Council on a Liberal Democrat motion to take up powers to tackle pavement parking where residents are unhappy with inconsiderate parking. Cllr Glynane put forwards a motion calling for the Council to investigate using new discretionary powers made available by the Coalition Government, which gained majority support across the Council.

Scott Collins, Parliamentary Spokesman for South Northamptonshire Liberal Democrats said “I applaud our county group s action calling for the County Council to take up these new powers put in place by the Coalition allowing Council to take stronger action on pavement parking.”

“This is an issue thanks has consistently cropped up in several towns and villages across South Northamptonshire especially in Brackley and Towcester.” continued Scott.

Cllr Glynane said “I’m pleased that the Council has agreed to look at this. Residents have told me that in some areas of the County this is a real issue. Inconsiderate parking on pavements can cause a big problem for people with mobility scooters, those who are visually impaired, and families with pushchairs. We want to see these new powers granted by the Government used where it is reasonable and appropriate.”

“The Liberal Democrats at County Hall will be keeping up the pressure to make sure action is taken so that everyone can get around, and that the disabled or those with young children aren’t forced to walk in the road, putting themselves in danger.”
