Plenty to do this summer at Northampton’s leisure centres

by admin on 27 July, 2010

Fancy roller-skating? A taster session of roller hockey? How about a body combat fitness course or learning on the climbing wall?

Or why not pick up a few circus skills, play in World Cup competition football or take a gymnastics course at Danes Camp

You can do all this and more at Northampton Borough Council’s leisure centres during the summer holidays.

Many taster courses are on offer at Mounts Baths, Lings Forum and Danes Camp are a great way to give youngsters a taste of a new activity. There is also a play scheme that is ideal for parents who have to work and need someone to look after their children full time through the week.

The Funzone play scheme at Lings Forum will take care of children aged 8 to 13 years and keep them occupied with fun activities, including sports, arts and crafts, swimming with inflatables and a film at the Forum Cinema. This fully supervised scheme runs from July 26 until August 27, from 8.30am and 5.30pm. Leisure card holders can book for one day for just £17 or £80 for the whole week.

There are also a variety of swimming courses to improve confidence and skills, or even learn the basics of being a lifeguard. Even though the Government’s funding of free swimming for under 16s has ended, buying a Junior Leisure Card for £6.50 will still give free swimming until the end of August, and swimming for £1 thereafter.

And for days when both parents and youngsters might prefer a more laid back day, the Forum Cinema is showing family favourites from Shrek Forever After through Street Dance to Toy Story 3.

The activities are all organised by Northampton Borough Council’s Sports and Play Development teams.
