Northampton Borough Council tenants can now view their rent account online and make rent payments.
The move is part of the council’s commitment to offering its customers more services online.
As well as being able to pay their rent, tenants can view and update their contact details, report repairs, apply for a garage and apply for a lifeline.
To safeguard the security of online accounts, customers will first need to set up a citizen’s account on the council’s website.
Councillor Sally Beardsworth, Northampton Borough Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “This is the latest of many technological improvements that are helping improve customers’ access to our services online, and I am all for anything that makes life easier for people.”
To set up a citizen’s account to pay rent online visit www.northampton.gov.uk and click on citizen’s account or for more information call the housing customer services team on Northampton 0845 330 0637.
