Tory Councillor for Towcester lives in CORNWALL!

by Jill Hope on 10 October, 2011

ROSEMARY BROMWICH, the Conservative Council Councillor for Towcester, say she will remain on the Council despite moving to Cornwall, more than 200 miles away. Councillor Bromwich gets an allowance from taxpayers of over £7,000, and says she will stay on as a councillor till 2013 when there are county council elections.

What do you think? Leader of the council Jim Harker says “…she”ll be able to represent people and know what’s going on.”

It’s hard to understand how she will know what’s happening on the ground from 200 miles away. South Northants Lib Dem Councillor Chris Lofts says she should have left the county council “It seems a very odd way to represent Towcester”.

  1. Jim O'Rourke says:

I cannot agree that Towcester in Northamptonshire should be represented by anyone who lives in Cornwall. As for Councillor Bromwich being “well versed in the issues” I consider this to be extremely patronising. The proper thing to do would be for Councillor Bromwich to retire and for a Towcestrian to stand for election. Its looks like she wants to hang on to £7000 of OUR council tax, while living in retirement!

  2. Jim O'Rourke says:

If we want to see Councillor Bromwich do we travel to Cornwall or will she travel to Northamptonshire in a taxi from Cornwall?

  3. Brian Markham says:

Cllr. Bromwich says that if people want to see her they can catch her once a month when she attends a meting at County Hall. Even this means travelling from Towcester to Northampton.
    What no house calls then?
